| DAYS & HOURS: | Monday-Friday 1.5 - 2 hours /day |
| DESCRIPTION: | The After School Tutor is responsible for instruction and homework help for various children in the Adelante Club after school homework program. The tutor will report to the Associate Director. |
| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: | Assist and mentor students with homework, research and school projects during daily Adelante Club at the designated school site. Assure that the student has homework or other assignments from the teacher by utilizing the Mentor Communication Form. Engage participants in special activities or projects when students do not have homework or finish early. Track student success utilizing bimonthly or monthly communication with teachers using the evaluation form. Communicate with parents, teacher and youth participants to assess the student needs in order tolink with appropriate learning activities. Design academic activities in line with youth interests and school district curriculum, build academic skills to supplement homework. Provide program information and registration to new participants and parents. Meet with parents in person or by phone to fill out all registration materials completely and set academic goals. Meet with parents, as needed, for follow up. Maintain an environment conducive to academic success. Report any discipline issues to the Associate Director. Meet on a weekly basis with Associate Director. |
| QUALIFICATIONS: | AA and/or Bachelor’s Degree Preferred. Must be bilingual English/Spanish. Experience working with youth and strong desire to promote academic success. Candidate must have strong initiative and creativity. Prior experience working in a school setting, either in the classroom or in an academic support role is preferred. |
| EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DESIRED: | Demonstrate initiative and work independently with minimal direction. Prioritize, plan and organize work effectively. Good interpersonal and communication skills, organized, detail-oriented and deadline-sensitive. Valid driver’s license required. |
